| Hello gamers, welcome back to the WIRED Games newsletter. Let's dive right in, shall we? First up, Megan Farokhmanesh is still on the Palworld beat, and notes that after Nintendo stepped in to shut down a modder who was adding actual Pokémon to the game, the modder is back with a "legally distinct yellow rat," which … well, you know what that means. And so does Nintendo, but whether they'll be able to take additional action remains to be seen. Next up, a selection of stories from our Gear Team, including Simon Hill's update to the best mesh Wi-Fi routers, if you're in the market for one. A good mesh network can do a lot to make sure you have consistent wireless coverage across your entire home (if you have enough space to worry about that). Also from the Gear Team, if you game (or just work) on a laptop, you might consider a stand to help make your setup a little more ergonomic. We have an update to our favorite laptop stands, perfect for making sure that whether you're working or playing, you're not bending your neck to stare at the screen. Also, whether you need something to watch the big game or you don't care about that game and want to play video games on it, the year's newest and best TVs are hitting store shelves right now. That means we have an update to our rundown of the best TVs, just in time for you to hopefully save some money. Now you're probably wondering what we think of the Apple Vision Pro, especially when it comes to gaming. Well, full reviews and such are still forthcoming, but you can check out some of our early impressions. Start with this piece from Andrew Williams looking at why right now the killer app for the Vision Pro seems to be kitchen timers, and that's not a great sign. For more, check out this week's Gadget Lab podcast, where hosts Michael Calore and Lauren Goode chat about how the device is being reviewed by Silicon Valley types versus how it's been perceived by the general public. It's a great episode. |
