| Happy Wednesday gamers, welcome back to the WIRED Games newsletter! It's been a pretty quiet week on the Games front over here, but that doesn't mean we're not doing anything! A lot of our time right now is being spent with new and upcoming releases for later in the summer. But now is a great time to go back through your backlog and find something fun to play if you're looking for something new. I, for one, have still been playing Everspace 2, but I might get back into Apex Legends. Last week I got an early look at a Legend that should be out by the time you read this, Ballistic. I can't wait to give him a shot, once I shake the rust off a little bit, that is. A few of my friends have been really into Sunhaven, which plays a bit like a multiplayer, story-driven Stardew Valley, so I might pick that up as well. Another of my friends is doing a playthrough of The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild in preparation for next month's release of Tears of the Kingdom, which you can bet we'll be covering here. So let's get started. Let's check out what our Gear Team has been up to first, and then let's look at some pieces we've published that you may have missed to get you through the quiet season. First of all, Jaina Grey just updated our list of the best VR headsets you can buy right now, so if you're thinking of dipping your toes into VR, she has a pick for you. I'm still new to VR, but I'm looking forward to giving it a try. I know we have a great list of Meta Quest VR games to play here, but if you have any VR games worth playing that I should try, aside from Tentacular, of course, let me know at games@WIRED.com! Next up, since Aprill 22 was Earth Day, Simon Hill has this excellent guide to buying environmentally friendly and ethical electronics. Don't get us wrong, the bulk of the responsibility of climate change and environmental protection is on the handful of companies causing the majority of the damage, but it's also fair to say that just because you can't do everything to fix a problem doesn't mean you can't, or shouldn't, do anything at all. So even smart buying can help protect our home and save you some cash in the process. It's a win-win. As we all wait patiently for Diablo IV to come out, if you missed Boone Ashworth's early impressions of the game from our early look a few months ago, now's the time to read it. I'm hearing great things from the betas, and frankly, I'm kind of stoked to get my hands on it too. Finally, if you're not waiting with bated breath for a new game to come out, maybe now's a great time to score some old games on the cheap, or even for free. Omar Gallaga's guide to building a PC game library for free is always worth keeping open in a tab, or at least bookmarking for future review. Now then, that'll do it for us this week. I have betas to play and testing to do, and you all have a whole half-week to push the rest of the way through. We'll see you back here next Wednesday! |
