Only a few hours left until Tears of the Kingdom, friends. Your long wait is almost over! Assuming you're waiting to get your hands on it—and who isn't, really? Are you going to be playing it this weekend? Let us know your first impressions at games@WIRED.com! We'll have plenty of coverage later this week about the game and our own impressions, and so far, our reviewer seems to be having fun! Me? I'm looking forward to giving Redfall a fair shake—I know it had a rocky launch last week, but it seems to be mostly performance-based on not gameplay-based, so we'll see how it plays on my rig. Darkest Dungeon II got a full release last week as well, so I've also been deciding whether to give that a shot. But there seems to be a lot of pressure on the new Zelda game and Bethesda's upcoming Starfield to really wow us, you know? Feels like the spring has been a bunch of semi-rocky launches. But let's move on to the gaming news this week. First of all, definitely read Laurence Russell's piece on how neurodivergent gamers are finally getting a seat at the table when it comes to tabletop game design. Tabletop games rely so often on rules and structure and social bonds that they can be offputting to many people, but that's changing in a wonderful way thanks to some gaming pioneers leading the way. It's a brilliant read on how even tabletop games are evolving to bring more players together and offer people more ways to play. Next up, if you're looking for something new to play, Reece Rogers just updated our lists of the best games on Xbox Game Pass and the best games on PlayStation Plus. On the Xbox side, you can expect some new entries like Redfall, and on the PlayStation side you can expect the latest remaster of The Last of Us, for example. If you pay for either service, check out our list of suggestions for your next title. If you're in the market for a new router, Simon Hill has an excellent review of the new Asus RT-AXE7800, which he gives an 8/10 (nice!) and says is the best Wi-Fi 6E router for most people. Refreshingly, it looks like this high-end router ditches the subscription model that some manufacturers have tried with their management software and gives you all the tools you need to build your network out of the box. If you check out the review and you think to yourself, "Nah, that's not the right move for me," consider Simon's full guide on how to shop for a new router. Even if this model isn't right for you, the guide is full of tips on how to choose a great one. Finally, in the upgrade department, Parker Hall has just updated our guide to choosing the best TV for you, especially if you're in the market for a new upgrade because you want your console games to look better. He's included updated pricing for our favorite TVs along with new info on what to look for in current models, so be sure to check it out. |
