Welcome back to the WIRED Games newsletter, friends! Have you started your holiday shopping yet? Grab any great gaming deals for Black Friday or Cyber Monday? If you scored anything particularly awesome, I want to hear about it—drop me a line at games@WIRED.com. Let's get right into it, shall we? Megan Farokhmanesh is here to answer the question we all have: How did Baldur's Gate 3 turn into this year's horniest game? Now that's investigative journalism, in my book. I refuse to spoil an amazing story by giving too much of it away, but I will just say that Megan does a great job of talking to the players who have been busy speedrunning the game's many relationships to see who they can get together with and … well, you know what happens next. Also this past week, racing game aficionado Parker Hall tells us all about his favorite racing wheel setup, which you can pick up right now from Logitech—he explains why getting the new wheel and pedals brought his F1 racing dreams to life (that is, complete with a PC that can power the games and hardware!). If you've been playing F1 23 or Forza Horizon with a controller and think you're ready to take that experience to the next level, check it out. Our Gear Team has been hard at work this past week, too, considering it was the furious beginning of the holiday shopping season, but they've also been cranking out reviews! For example, did you catch our updated guide to the best keyboards for work and play? We have 18 to choose from, from the simple and affordable that anyone can use to the higher-end mechanical keyboards that yours truly is shopping for this year. For myself, of course. Next up, Eric Ravenscraft went hands on with Sony's PlayStation Portal not too long ago, and pointed out that if you already have a PS5 in your living room but want to play your favorite games in the bedroom or outside on the porch or something, it's worth checking out. Still, it's kind of an odd device in an odd spot. He gave it a serviceable 7/10, but lists the caveats you should definitely consider before you buy. Eric also reviewed the Lenovo Legion Go, Lenovo's attempt to get in on the handheld gaming PC market that's already somewhat dominated by Valve's Steam Deck and the ROG Ally. Sadly, it's not really up to snuff: He gives it a 5/10, noting that what looks like pretty solid hardware is hobbled by having a generic install of Windows thrust onto it, which causes all sorts of problems since it's installed on a device it wasn't intended for. Shame, because the hardware is great. Bottom line, if you're looking for a handheld gaming console, we have a brand new guide to help you choose the best one. You'll find the obvious king of the hill—the Nintendo Switch—in the mix, but the Steam Deck and a few honorable mentions are in there too. Don't waste your money before you check out the full guide, okay? I'll see you back here next week. |
