Welcome back to the WIRED Games newsletter, friends. It's been a little bit of a slow start to the year, at least gaming-wise, but that's mostly because I think we're all still shaking the dust from our heads after New Year's. But from here on out, there's no excuse, is there? So let's jump right in. First off, you have to have heard about the kid who essentially "beat" Tetris, right? Yup: he played until the game essentially froze with a top score of 99999, and he was streaming live while he did it. WIRED's culture editor Angela Watercutter has a great piece on him and why we're all obsessed with him so much. Check it out. Next up, service writer Reece Rogers just updated our list of the best games on PlayStation Plus, fresh with picks for the new year. So if you haven't tried titles like Teardown or Metal: Hellsinger, and you have a subscription to PS Plus, now's your chance. Get in there and play something new. Speaking of new platforms, maybe you picked up a VR headset for the holidays, like a Meta Quest 3? We have a rundown of games you should try for the Quest, and it includes some bangers that'll help you really get the hang of VR. Yes, of course Beat Saber is on the list, why would you even ask? Also, just because the holidays are over doesn't mean the cold is going anywhere. So if you're yearning for some cozy vibes, we have a list of our favorite cozy titles right here for you to sift through and check out. Cozy gaming is a whole thing, and I'm here for it. If you want my personal picks from the list, try out Unpacking, Kind Words, and maybe Strange Horticulture. I'm more of a Potion Craft kind of guy myself. Most of our consumer tech and gear team are out at CES, formerly known as the Consumer Electronics Show, in Las Vegas right now. If you're curious about all things frontier tech and wondering what companies like, yes, even Asus, Razer, Microsoft, and others are showing off right now, check out their live blog, written by members of the whole team together, to see what's new. If you want to cut right to the chase, they have a rundown of the coolest stuff they've seen at the event, updated as they see more cool stuff. |
