| | | | Brought to you by: | | | | | Friday, April 21, 2023 | How many of you watched "Silicon Valley" during its run? I did. And there was something about jumping into it, several seasons in, just as I was dipping my toe into the world of tech journalism. Somehow, it made me feel included in something big – like I had a chance to be one of the cool kids. And as I look around at our industry, over three years since the show's series finale aired, I can't help but lament the absence of "Silicon Valley" today. Can you imagine what the writers could do with the current state of AI calamity? Picture Gavin Belson making grand proclamations and orders about Hooli's stake in the race to win at AI. Richard & Friends would emerge as the seemingly victorious underdog, only to be foiled by the giants. I would, as the kids say, have no notes. But as I wax creatively on the plotline of a TV series that no longer exists, something else arises: Who would be in the proverbial writer's room? Would it be we mere mortals, or – you guessed it – our friendly, neighborhood Generative AI? Loathe as I am to admit it, it's hard not to imagine a future where the (human) minds behind a show like "Silicon Valley" wouldn't produce at least one episode fully written by AI. In fact, its star, Thomas Middleditch, once appeared in a short film written entirely by neural-network-powered AI. That's why I wanted to highlight a recent article from Senior News Writer Matt Southern about Google Bard's latest update, which is rooted in – drumroll please – creativity. "Bard," he explains, "was initially conceived as a creative tool to help users draft written content … and brainstorm ideas." And as much fun as I have training, I mean, playing with these models – I regret (or am happy?) to inform you that these emails are still written by little old me: AZW, the human mind and content creator. So is this list of other articles I'd like to write home about: - The states are piling onto the Justice Department's antitrust lawsuit against Google. Kristi Hines explains why all 17 – count 'em, 17 – states are joining in the allegations of anti-competitive practices with its ad technology.
- Also: What is Auto-GPT? And should you freak out about it? Stay calm and read on: Roger Montti, as always, has you covered here.
- ICYMI: We compiled a list of alternatives to AmazonSmile for integrated charity donations.
That's all from me for a while – I'm heading out on vacation for two weeks. Until then, I wish you the happiest of Fridays, the greatest of weekends, and the most creative of days. In sentient affability, AZW News, Tools By Matt G. Southern To provide users a more diverse and creative experience, Google has released a new update for its artificial intelligence chatbot, Bard. The update aims to expand the variety of drafts the chatbot produces, providing users with more options for creative explorations. Google Bard, an AI chatbot powered by the LaMDA AI language model, was officially released on February 6 and granted user access on March 21. Bard was initially conceived as a creative tool to help users draft written content like emails and brainstorm ideas. The latest update to Google Bard introduces a new feature allowing users to view a wider range of distinct draft options. | | | | | Search Engine Journal By SEJ Survey Help shape the future of SEO! Southern Google expands Bard's capabilities to include support for programming tasks in 20+ languages and debugging assistance. | | | SEO By Corey Morris Many thought leaders in the non-profit sector interpret the news as a signal to reprioritize the development of their organization's mission, vision, and values in an effort to attract major donations. While this is incredibly important for any brand to prioritize, it takes time. And if there's anything non-profit leaders don't have, it's time. In conclusion, there are many other accessible, integrated charity donation platforms, even though AmazonSmile's demise may be distressing for non-profit organizations that have grown dependent on the platform. Despite the inconvenience, it's crucial for non-profit organizations to carefully consider which platform best suits their needs because each of the platforms we've covered offers special features, pricing structures, and areas of specialization. | | | | | Sponsored By Moz Maximize your website's potential with Moz's comprehensive SEO course. | | | | | How did you like today's email? | | 1 2 3 4 | | | | Generative AI, Machine Learning, News By Roger Montti Google and DeepMind announced the creation of a new group called Google DeepMind that will combine the infrastructure and research of two units within Alphabet in order to achieve faster and stronger progress and collaboration. | | | News, SEO By Matt G. | | | | SEO By Helen Pollitt S.E.O. needs to be front and center in company communications. Find the best way to do that at your company, whether it's a monthly report and email briefing to key stakeholders or a company-wide message on your internal chat. It is very possible for a company to begin thinking S.E.O.-first, but it takes time and strong stakeholder relationships to make it work. S.E.O., especially for an online organization, is highly important for reputation management, leads, brand awareness, and ultimately revenue. It's not alone in that. But it is fairly unique in that not many other departments that impact these can be damaged so easily and take so long to then repair. | | | Generative AI, News By Roger Montti Large Language Models (LLMs) like ChatGPT, Bard and even open source versions are trained on public Internet content. But there are also indications that popular AIs might also be trained on datasets created from pirated books. | | | Content Creation, SEO By Sam Hollingsworth Humans are visual-oriented beings. We have five critical senses that we use every day to problem solve and get through our daily lives, each of which helps humans significantly. Visuals affect how people digest content as well as how they understand it, retain it, and even engage with it. Visuals also affect how that content shows up in organic search and how people react to it in search. | | | | | | | | Upcoming Events | | April 26 at 2 pm ET
