What? Oh, sorry, I didn't notice you there! I was too busy playing Slay the Princess and Dave the Diver. Seriously though, it's time for another WIRED Games newsletter, isn't it? Good thing we have a bunch of news to share this week. Let's get started. First of all, if you haven't seen Reid McCarter's take on the quite excellent Spider-Man 2, out now for PlayStation, you should definitely read the full review. The game is, as you've likely heard, very very good, and part of the reason for that is because the game expands on everything that made the last one great, while adding more depth to the story and characters people will love seeing. The whole spider-duo thing works really well, too. Also, if you're struggling in the game, don't forget we have some tips to help! Next up, regardless of whether you've played Assassin's Creed Mirage, I can promise that you probably haven't read impressions of the game from someone with roots in ancient Baghdad, the way Saniya Ahmed does. She's also played the game and is familiar with the historical context. Bottom line? Sure, the game is fun and flashy, but it doesn't love its setting as much as we wish it did. If you're going in hoping for a crash course on the scientific and mathematical advancements during the Islamic Golden Age, you won't get much there. Maybe you're more of a Mario person? That's totally fine too. Super Mario Bros. Wonder is a success, and Megan Farokhmanesh has an excellent piece about why Nintendo kept the new voice of Mario so quiet. Sure, part of it was to avoid overshadowing Charles Martinet's new role as Nintendo brand ambassador, but also because they didn't want the launch of the game to be focused on the new VA for Mario, Kevin Afghani. Also, right on time, Reece Rogers has updated our list of the best games available on Sony PlayStation Plus, including some new entries on the list like Celeste and Rider's Republic. Maybe you'd prefer to be a shark and play Maneater, or before you dive into the new Spider-Man game, you'd like to play Spider-Man: Miles Morales. All of those games are available to play right now for free, if you have a subscription. Last, but certainly not least, Eric Ravenscraft just gave the latest Razer Blade 14 a spin. He gave it an impressive 8/10, praising it for its beautiful display, which just happens to be powered by an Nvidia 40-series GPU. It has ports galore and is overall a solid gaming laptop that could replace a desktop if you wanted. But it's not perfect: Like any gaming laptop, it can get very noisy and very hot pretty quickly when you fire up something GPU-intensive, and it's by no means cheap, starting at around $2,400. So definitely read before you buy! And on that note, I'm back to Slay the Princess. Are any of you playing? I've already seen some of the endings, but truly, it's the kind of game you could play over and over, especially if you're a fan of psychological horror. When it's a little much for me, I switch over to Dave the Diver, which just came out on Switch, and feels really, really at home on that platform. Or I'll pick Baldur's Gate 3 back up and do a little exploring. I'm sure some of you are still playing that, for sure. Anyway: I'll see you back here next week! |
