It's Wednesday, gamers, and you know what that means: a brand new WIRED Games newsletter! First and foremost, have you played Dave the Diver? You should play Dave the Diver. It's a hilarious roguelike diving and restaurant management game and it's truly delightful. Easily one of the best games I've played this year, mostly because it hits that line between addictive and funny, completely self-aware of how silly it is. I haven't written anything about it yet, but I really should, it's great. First up this week, Jaina Grey has an amazing tutorial on how to install Diablo IV on your Steam Deck, which she reminds us is a great place to play the game. Stuck in line at Starbucks waiting for a coffee? Kill some zombies! Sitting in the back on a long road trip? Kill zome monsters! Diablo IV is great on the Steam Deck, it just needs a little love to install first, and she tells you everything you need to know. Next up, a public service announcement from our Gear Team, who'll be working very hard to cover Amazon's made-up shopping holiday, Prime Day, when it lands on July 11th and goes through the 12th. They've updated our guide on how to shop like a pro on Prime Day with some new details for this year. They've even outlined some great early deals this year that are already available, including a price drop on Tears of the Kingdom if you haven't picked it up yet, and some other household tech and gaming gear. Check them out! Since this is a bit of a holiday week, let's take a look back at some of the stories we've published recently that may have gotten lost in the shuffle. Just in case you missed it, our interview with Jennie Kwan, the voice of Chun-Li in Street Fighter 6, is well worth checking out, because it's the first time an Asian voice actor has played the character, and she's bringing her own take to the role. Based on SF6's massive popularity, it's clearly working. Next, if you haven't read Megan Farokhmanesh's interview with Tears of the Kingdom's director, Hidemaro Fujibayashi, and producer Eiji Aonuma, you should take a little time out this week to read it. I, for one, love that they talked about which version of Link smells the worst, but they also talk about other things, like what inspired the Ultrahand, or why the team knew they wanted a direct sequel to Breath of the Wild. Finally, don't sleep on Michael Venutolo-Mantovani's essay on being a member of the Oregon Trail Generation—you know, that group of people who grew up and the first "game" we remember playing was, as the name implies, The Oregon Trail. Maybe it just resonates with me because, well, I'm old. Anyway, memento mori, I'll see you next week. |
